PRINCETON, N.J. – Extending its win streak to five games, the 10th-ranked Princeton University men's water polo team outlasted No. 19 Navy in a CWPA Southern Division overtime game at DeNunzio Pool, 11-10.
Upping their overall record to 11-1 (6-1 Southern), the Tigers have now taken five of the last six meetings against the Midshipmen (10-9, 1-3 Southern) dating back to last season. Down 6-4 after three quarters, Princeton held a 5-3 scoring edge in the fourth to tie it at 9-9 at the end of regulation. Still deadlocked in the waning moments of the second overtime period, Jovan Jeremic notched the game winner on a man-up advantage to put the Orange and Black ahead for good.
Also finding the back of the Navy net in the first extra session, Jeremic finished with three goals, an assist and a steal. Thomas Nelson notched a team-high four goals, while Drew Hoffenberg had two goals, two steals and three drawn ejections. Going 5-0 on sprints, Jordan Colina had a goal, assist and three steals, while Curtis Fink accounted for Princeton's other score, adding four drawn ejections.
Playing all 38 minutes in net, Vojislav Mitrovic made 10 saves to improve to 7-0 on the season. Stopping three shots in both the first and second quarters, he tacked on four more saves over the game's final 22 minutes.
Princeton returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 9 at No. 1 UCLA before opening SoCAL Tournament play on Oct. 11 against No. 7 Pacific.
