Bonus Points Go Binghamton's Way; Tigers Drop Home Opener 20-16
December 13, 2014 | Wrestling
The loss drops Princeton to 3-2 on the season, while Binghamton, which got a pin in the final match to clinch the win, improves to 2-4.
The Bearcats got out to a 8-0 lead after two matches, but sophomore Jordan Laster scored a crucial takedown in sudden victory to score a 3-1 win over Dylan Caruana. Senior Adam Krop followed with a major decision over Nick Tighe to get the Tigers back within one point.
After a Binghamton win at 157, Tiger freshman Jonathan Schleifer earned a victory in his Dillon debut. He used a pair of first-period takedowns to build a 4-1 lead and carried that edge for a 7-2 win over Zack Zupan.
The two teams split the next two matches, including a 6-0 victory for Princeton sophomore Brett Harner, and 11th-ranked junior Abram Ayala gave Princeton its first lead of the night with a 7-4 win over Caleb Wallace.
Unfortunately, that still left one match remaining, and Binghamton had an ace up its sleeve. Nationally ranked heavyweight Tyler Deuel scored the first takedown over Princeton sophomore Ray O'Donnell, whose last match was against the top-ranked wrestler in the country. O'Donnell pushed the action in the second period, but he got caught on an attempted takedown and was pinned at the 3:50 mark to clinch the win for Binghamton.
Princeton will return to the mat Dec. 21 at Madison Square Garden in the third annual Grapple at the Garden.
