Samuel Kang Pushes Former National Champ Before Falling In CSA Quarters
March 02, 2014 | Men's Squash
Kang, who was eliminated by Farag in 2013 as well, pushed the Harvard No. 1 in a tough 11-8 opening game, but Farag took full control from there. The top seed claimed an 11-8, 11-1, 11-1 victory to advance to the semifinal.
Senior Dylan Ward, who was part of two memorable Ivy League championship wins, as well as the 2012 national title over Trinity, pushed Harvard No. 2 Brandon McLaughlin in his final collegiate match. Ward ended up falling 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 to the Crimson No. 2, while Princeton teammate Tyler Osborne defaulted from the second-round consolation draw due to injury.
In the Molloy Division, which serves as the 'B' flight, a pair of underclassmen won multiple matches in the championship flight before finally losing. Sophomore Michael LeBlanc had his work cut out for him immediately, trailing 2-0 in his first match, but he won the next three games to advance. He trailed 2-1 in that match before rallying for another win. His run ended at the hands of Rishi Jalan in three games.
Freshman Ben Leizman also pulled out a five-game win during his run to the third round. After a sweep in the first round, he needed an 11-8 win to advance past Sebastian Riedelsheimer and into the third round. He opened the third round with a win before ultimately falling in four games.
