The endowment was established in 1984 in memory of Dewey F. Bartlett '42 and Richard H. Mayo '42 by gifts from Edward G. Green '40, Robert H.B. Baldwin '42 and other friends and supporters of Franklin C. Cappon, head coach of Princeton basketball from 1938 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1961. This was the first endowed coaching position established at Princeton.
