Men's Water Polo Closes Out Weekend With 14-12 Win Over George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Behind Connor McGoldrick's career-high four goals and 13 Alex Gow saves, the eighth-ranked Princeton University men's water polo team improved to 8-1 on the season with a 14-12 victory over CWPA Southern Division rival No. 18 George Washington University.
Down 4-3 after the first quarter, Princeton outscored the Colonials 6-3 over the next eight minutes to take a 9-7 lead into the intermission. With both teams netting a pair of goals in the third, the Tigers battled GW to a 3-3 tie in the fourth to hold onto a two-goal margin.
Finding the back of the net on all four of his shots, McGoldrick upped his season goal total to nine. Turning in a hat trick for the second consecutive game, Jordan Colina also went 4-0 on sprints. Through his first nine collegiate games, Colina remains undefeated on sprints with a 17-0 mark.
Jovan Jeremic had three goals and four assists, while Drew Hoffenberg chipped in with three goals, two steals and two drawn ejections. Curtis Fink drew a team-high five ejections, while also accounting for the Tigers' only other tally.
Suffering his first loss of the season yesterday at Johns Hopkins, Gow finished with 13 saves to improve to 3-1 on the year. Making two stops in the first quarter, he made four saves in the second period. Adding five more in the third, Gow stopped a pair of tries in the final eight minutes to help preserve the Princeton victory.
The Tigers will welcome George Washington and Bucknell to DeNunzio Pool on Sunday, Sept. 28.
