BOX SCORE
Junior Brittany Ptak completed an error-free weekend with 12 kills on 16 swings, while classmate Cara Mattaliano recorded another double-double, to lead the Princeton women's volleyball team to a 3-0 home win over Cornell Saturday night at Dillon Gym.
The 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 victory over the Big Red capped an absolute must-win weekend for the Tigers, who battled back into the Ivy League race with the back-to-back victories. At 2-3 in the Ivy League, Princeton is two matches back of Harvard and Dartmouth, and the Tigers will host both at Dillon Gym later this season. Every other team in the league is either only one match ahead or no better than even with Princeton in the Ivy standings.
Ptak, who hit .500 in a 3-0 win over Columbia Friday night, hit .750 and added a block against the Big Red, who fell to 0-5 in Ivy play. Mattaliano was also efficient, hitting .364 from the outside position.
Freshman Nnenna Ibe had three blocks and two kills, while classmate Claire Nussbaum had a team-best 24 assists. Mattaliano led the Tigers with 12 digs, while senior Sarah Daschbach added nine.
Princeton has a key road weekend upcoming, which includes a Friday night showdown with Brown in Providence. On Saturday, the Tigers will face reigning champion Yale at 5 pm in New Haven.
