A recap of Princeton athletic events from Saturday, Nov. 14:
MEN'S HOCKEY: No. 7 Harvard 3, Princeton 0
Jimmy Vesey's redirection in the first period was the difference maker as Princeton held its own with No. 7 Harvard. Two empty-net goals would end the game, 3-0 in favor of the Crimson. The goaltenders stole the show, with Princeton's Colton Phinney stopping 39 shots and Harvard's Merrick Madsen making 38 saves.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Princeton 4, Boston College 2
Two goals apiece from Mimi Asom and Tyler Lussi propelled Princeton to a win in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday night at Roberts Stadium. Princeton will now face USC in the NCAA Round of 32.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Princeton 3, Columbia 1
Princeton clinched a share of its 15th Ivy League title and became the first team in Ivy League history to win the championship despite starting 0-3 in Ivy play. Junior Cara Mattaliano posted 22 kills and 25 digs, the first 20-20 match of her All-Ivy career.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Princeton Wraps Play in Florida
Katrine Steffensen won a match to advance to the semifinals at the Lakewood Ranch Invitational before falling in the semifinals, wrapping Princeton's play at the clay-court event.
MEN'S TENNIS: Tigers' Run Ends in Florida
Princeton's pair of entrants at the Lakewood Ranch Invitational clay-court event, Tom Colautti and Ben Tso, fell in the semifinals as a doubles pair and in the quarterfinals in singles, closing the Tigers' play in the tournament.
MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING: 2nd at PSU Open
Princeton picked up several individual victories at the Penn State Open, but it finished in second place overall. Four swimmers competed at the Minnesota Grand Prix, which included some of the sport's best performers, and sophomore Corey Okubo had two top-five finishes.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING: 2nd at PSU Open
It was another strong showing for the Tiger freshmen, as Lindsey Swartz picked up the team's lone victory by winning the 200 breast in 2:21.89, while Monica McGrath had three Top-3 finishes for the Tigers, who took second to PSU. Six others competed at the Minnesota Grand Prix.
MEN'S SOCCER: Princeton 3, Yale 0
One senior had his first career goal, another had his second, and still another finished his climb up the record books Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium. Goals from John Kendall, Thomas Sanner and Andrew Doar led Princeton to a 3-0 win over Yale on the nine-member Class of 2016's senior day, closing a 10-win season for what was Princeton's second straight double-digit victory campaign.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Princeton received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, as the NCAA made its selections this afternoon.
WOMEN'S HOCKEY: No. 8 Quinnipiac 4, No. 10 Princeton 2
A three-goal third period propelled No. 8 Quinnipiac to a 4-2 win over No. 10 Princeton in Game 2 of the home-and-home series between the travel partners. The teams played to a 1-1 draw yesterday in Hamden. Princeton took a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period and maintained the lead after 40 minutes, 2-1.
MEN'S SOCCER: Princeton 3, Yale 0
Princeton closed its season with a 3-0 win over Yale at Roberts Stadium with every point coming from a senior. John Kendall had his first career goal, Andrew Doar had his second and Thomas Sanner had his 32nd, with Nico Hurtado and Sanner getting assists.
FOOTBALL: Yale 35, Princeton 28
Despite six catches for a career-best 151 yards and two touchdowns by senior Isaiah Barnes, the Princeton football team gave up the final 11 points of the game in the fourth quarter to fall in its home finale.
FIELD HOCKEY: Princeton 3, Maryland 1
Sophia Tornetta netted a pair of goals to lead the 16th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team to a 3-1 upset win over No. 5 Maryland in NCAA first round action at Syracuse's JS Coyne Stadium. The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Nov. 15 with a national quarterfinal match-up against the host Orange.
