Princeton Defeats Dartmouth 6-3 To Clinch Hoehn Cup

For the second straight day, the Princeton tri-captains posted a perfect 3-0 record to help hold off an improved Dartmouth squad. Following a victory from senior All-America Tyler Osborne, Princeton held a 3-2 lead and looked to close it out. At the No. 4 spot, senior David Hoffman split two close games before Hoffman opened a lead with an 11-9 win in the third. He closed strong, defeating Mark Funk 11-6 for the fourth win.
That left things in the able hands of No. 1 player Samuel Kang, who would not be denied against Alvin Heumann. Kang claimed games of 11-4 and 11-7 before running through the final for an 11-1 win.
The first win of the day came from freshman Jarryd Osborne, who split the first four games at the No. 3 spot before knocking off Kyle Martino 11-8 in the fifth. For the second straight day, junior Michael LeBlanc handled a marathon before picking up an important win for Princeton; he rallied from a 2-1 deficit and posted an 11-8 win in the fifth over Michael Mistras to open a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Ben Leizman gave Princeton its final win with a 3-2 victory over Brian Giegerich at the No. 8 spot. Like LeBlanc, Leizman trailed 2-1 before taking wins of 11-8 and 11-4 to finish the match.
Princeton will now turn its attention to the 2015 CSA Individual Championships, which will be held at Jadwin for the first time ever (Feb. 27-March 1). You can watch play on Courts 1-5 throughout the weekend on the Ivy League Digital Network.
