Men's Squash Hosts Cornell, Heads To NYC For Final Regular Season Weekend
February 11, 2016 | Men's Squash
The Princeton men's squash team will complete its 2015-16 regular season this weekend with a pair of Ivy League showdowns. They will take on Cornell Friday afternoon at home in the Tigers' home finale, and then will travel to Columbia Sunday for the final match of the regular season.
Princeton picked up its first Ivy League win of the season Sunday afternoon in a 7-2 home win over Brown. The Tigers got victories from members of every class, including a five-game thriller from senior Michael LeBlanc. Freshmen Cody Cortes and William Oon each won the first Ivy League matches of their young careers, while sophomore Abhimanyu Shah picked up his team-best seventh victory of the season.
Friday will also serve as the final home matches in the careers of LeBlanc, Nic Barton, Sam Ezratty and Chris Harwood. That quartet was part of Princeton's 2013 Ivy League championship team; LeBlanc won 12 matches that season, including an important 3-0 win at Yale.
All courts for Friday's match with Cornell will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Following the weekend, Princeton will be off for a week before preparing for the CSA Team Championships, held Feb. 26-28 at Yale.
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red are currently 3-8 overall, and their lone Ivy win also came against Brown. Cornell lost 8-1 at Harvard last weekend, though it got a win at the No. 1 spot from Harry Freeman. The Big Red have won three straight in the series, though each have been either 5-4 or 6-3 finishes.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA
Columbia is 5-4 overall, 3-2 in the Ivy League, and is coming off a wild Ivy League weekend. The Lions dropped a 5-4 contest to Harvard — in which one of the Columbia players had to default due to injury — and then bounced back to hand Dartmouth a 5-4 loss. Jonathan Gill had a pivotal five-game win for the Lions in that match.
Columbia has the reigning CSA individual finalist in Osama Khalifa, and the Lions earned their first win against Princeton 6-3 in Jadwin last year.
