February 15, 2016 | General
Devin Cannady led Princeton in scoring on the weekend at 17 points per game, paced by his career-high 23 points and late-game heroics in the 88-83 overtime win at Columbia.
For his efforts, Cannady has earned Suburban Transit GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week honors.
Cannady scored 11 points in on 3-of-4 shooting in 18 minutes Friday night at Cornell before saving his biggest impact for Saturday night. While his 23 points were also a game high in addition to upping his Tiger best by six points, Cannady scored Princeton's last six points of regulation, including two 3-pointers in the final 11 seconds to pull the Tigers to a tie at 76-76. In the overtime, Cannady had five of the seven points that helped Princeton turn an 83-76 deficit into an 84-83 lead, including the go-ahead bucket with 49 seconds left before Henry Caruso sealed it with a 4-for-4 performance at the line.
Cannady is second on the team in scoring on the season overall at 11.4 points per game and 13.3 points per game in Ivy play, also second on the team. The Ivy League's top free throw shooter at 88.1 percent on the season, Cannady is third in the league among freshmen in scoring on the season overall.
The freshman from Indiana and his Tiger teammates will host Yale Friday night at 7 in a huge showdown for control of the Ivy race. The Bulldogs enter the weekend with an 8-0 Ivy record, a game and a half in front of Princeton at 6-1.
