Brown, Bose Named PNC Spring Achievers
May 03, 2016 | General
Senior Isaiah Brown of the men's lightweight rowing team and senior Kayla Bose of the softball team have been selected as the recipients of the honor.
The process provides Princeton Athletics with the opportunity to identify two student-athletes per season who have excelled not only in their competitive landscape, but in their overall achievement as a member of the Princeton community. Each season, these students will be nominated by their coaches and finalists will be selected by a committee of senior athletics administrators.
Isaiah Brown
Brown was elected by his more than 50 teammates to be the solo captain of this year's team, his third straight season on the first varsity eight boat. Last season, he helped the Varsity Eight earn bronze at the Eastern Sprints, followed by a fourth-place finish in the IRA grand finals while anchoring the second seat in the lead boat. Brown has served as an undergraduate teaching assistant for a financial accounting course, worked as a lead tutor at the McGraw Learning Center and volunteered as a peer academic adviser. He was a recipient of the prestigious Shapiro Prize in both 2013 and 2014, a university award that honors exceptional academic achievement during a student's freshman and sophomore years. An Academic All-Ivy and Academic All-IRA honoree, Brown spent last summer interning with a software investing team at Alpine Investors, a private equity firm in San Francisco. Brown is completing his studies in the operations research and financial engineering program.
Kayla Bose
A co-captain, Bose is a starting infielder and unequivocal emotional leader of the team. She led the Tigers in batting average as a freshman at .352 and embodies resilience and perseverance having battled back from three ACL tears in her right knee to become a mainstay in the lineup. A three-year member of VSAAC, Bose serves as the council's vice president after serving as secretary as a junior. She has assisted the Princeton Varsity Club as an assistant events coordinator and supported the athletics department's marketing efforts with game-day operations. Additionally, Bose has served as a team representative on the Friends of Princeton Softball Board and as vice president of Cannon Dial Elm club, helping to unite current students with alumni in each of the two respective organizations. Bose recently completed her senior thesis in the history department, and her team appreciates her passion and love for the campus community and her dynamic personality.
