Men's Squash Team Advances Past Bates, Earns Rematch With Cornell

A gritty five-game win by William Oon and a clinching effort by senior Ben Leizman pushed the Princeton men's squash team to a 5-4 quarterfinal win over Bates College in the first round of the Hoehn Cup draw Friday afternoon at the CSA Team Championships.
The victory sends Princeton into a Saturday afternoon semifinal with Cornell, which knocked off Navy by a 7-2 score. The match will be played on Harvard courts 8-10 at 3 pm. It will be a rematch from eight days earlier, when the Tigers knocked off the Big Red 6-3 in Ithaca.
Oon had a big three-game win in that victory over Cornell, and he came up with another key victory against Bates. Trailing 1-0 and 2-1, Oon went extra points to win the fourth game and added an 11-7 win to take the match.
Convincing 3-0 wins by both Gabriel Morgan and Shehab Thabet brought Princeton back even at 3-3 going into the final shift, and the Tigers turned to their captains to finish the job. Junior Abhimanyu Shah took care of business first, winning 3-0 at No. 4, and that left Leizman to prolong his final chance at a Hoehn Cup win. He got the job done, winning 11-5, 11-6, 11-6 to send Princeton into the Saturday rematch with Cornell.
