The Learfield Sports NACDA Directors' Cup seeks to recognize the top all-around intercollegiate athletic programs through a points system that uses NCAA championship participation and success. For the 21st time in the 24 years of the program, Princeton has led the Ivy League.
Princeton finished 48th overall in Division I, and first in the Ivy League, in the final Directors' Cup standings for the 2016-17 academic year. The standings became final with the conclusion of the College World Series.
Princeton earned 492 points, finishing just behind Indiana and ahead of Mississippi State and Maryland. The Tigers' best season was the spring, when the softball, women's lacrosse, women's golf, women's track and field and women's open rowing teams combined for 204 points.
The 48th-place finish marked the 20th time that Princeton has finished in the top 50. The Tigers have never finished lower than 63rd, and the best finish was 21st, in 2001-02.
