October 19, 2018 | Men's Water Polo
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The No. 12 Princeton Tigers (13-6, 4-4 NWPC) allowed just one goal over the final 12:59 of game action as they came from behind for an 11-8 victory over the Iona Gales (4-19, 0-5 NWPC) at Hynes Pool on Friday evening.
The two teams exchanged rallies in the first quarter as the Northeast Water Polo Conference contest settled at 2-all after eight minutes.
Following a Casey Conrad tally that opened the scoring in the second frame, Iona posted the next two goals to take a 4-3 advantage with 5:31 left in the first half. Keller Maloney would tie the meeting at 4-all, but Iona answered just 11 seconds later. The Gaels grew their lead and took a two-goal lead (6-4) into the break.
The home squad recorded the first goal of the second half, leading to a Princeton timeout just as the clock ticked under five minutes. Head coach Dustin Litvak's stoppage worked as the Tigers roared off three straight goals to end the frame, tying the game at 7-all after three quarters.
