Cheng Remains Perfect, But #5 Rochester Uses Early Surge For 8-1 Win
December 02, 2018 | Men's Squash
One day after posting its biggest win in more than five years, the Princeton men's squash team wasn't able to pull off a second top-five road win. Fifth-ranked Rochester swept a dramatic opening shift and carried that momentum to an 8-1 home win over #13 Princeton.
The Tigers, coming off the emotional high of Saturday's 6-3 win over fourth-ranked St. Lawrence, pushed the Yellowjackets hard in the opening shift of matches. Freshman Daelum Mawji was brilliant in his opening two games at the #3 spot, but Rochester junior Matt Toth got back into it and fought his way back for a 3-2 win.
Meanwhile, Princeton juniors Gabriel Morgan and Henry Parkhurst were trying for comebacks of their own. Morgan trailed 1-0 at the #6 spot before grabbing a win in the second game, but he fell in four. Parkhurst went down 2-0 at #9 before claiming a pair of 11-9 wins, but he ultimately dropped an 11-7 fifth game to secure the opening 3-0 lead for Rochester.
The home squad took control from there, but Princeton did get a victory from freshman Howe Cheng, who claimed a 3-2 win over Cesar Segundo at the #7 spot with an 11-3 win in the fifth game. Cheng is undefeated on the season, including wins over #1 Trinity, #4 St. Lawrence and #5 Rochester.
The Tigers will conclude the 2018 portion of their schedule Thursday at 6:30 when they head to Drexel.
