It's TAGD time again.
TAGD – Tiger Athletics Give Day – is back for the sixth year. The first five have been an extraordinary celebration of Princeton Athletics, with fundraising that has eclipsed $10 million and gone directly to enhancing the experience of Princeton's 1,000 varsity student-athletes.
"The incredible generosity and loyalty of our Friends' groups directly benefits our amazing student-athletes and enables them to 'Achieve, Serve, Lead' at their highest level," says Ford Family Director of Athletics Mollie Marcoux Samaan '91. "TAGD has had such a positive effect on so many of our teams in its first five years, and we're looking forward to another exciting and fun day of competition between the Friends' groups. We've talked about how we're still 'on the hunt' even as we approach 500 all-time Ivy League championships, and everyone here knows that we'd never been able to do what we do and provide the experience for the student-athletes that we do without the help of our entire Team Around The Team, of which our Friends' groups are such an important part."
The 17 Athletics Friends Groups will be competing for the most total donors and dollars raised, with more than $200,000 of bonus funds on the line, generously provided by the Princeton Varsity Club Board of Directors. This year's challenge to the Friends' groups is to "Raise the Bar" and strive to beat their five-year averages in donors and dollars. Additionally, the Princeton Varsity Club will be competing in a separate competition to secure 15 new PVC Lifetime Members on the day.
The 2018 Tiger Athletics Give Day was the most successful to date as it broke records for dollars raised with $2,728,733 and total donors with 8,693. The gifts, all from the 24 hours of TAGD, pushed the five-year total past the $10 million mark.
TAGD 2019 will be a continuation of the competitions that have been established through the years. There will be videos and other social media content, including a "Tiger Feud" competition between programs and a behind-the-scenes Instagram takeover by student-athletes and staff (airing live at 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on the Princeton University Athletics Facebook page), that help give the day the celebratory atmosphere that is has achieved in a short time.
Fans can follow along on the leaderboard to see updates of donors and donations in real time. They are also encouraged to contribute to the social media efforts themselves by using the hashtag "#TAGD" and to see their posts and those of other Princeton supporters on the TAGD website.
