Henry Parkhurst, Adhitya Raghavan Earn CSA Scholar-Athlete Honors
March 12, 2019 | Men's Squash
Juniors Adhitya Raghavan and Henry Parkhurst helped the Princeton men's squash team put together one of the most memorable season conclusions in quite some time, and they did so while continuing to shine off the squash courts as well. The College Squash Association (CSA) has released the Men's Scholar Athlete and Academic Recognition Awardees for the 2018-2019 season, and both were among the national recipients.
The Scholar Athlete Award (varsity team players) and Academic Recognition Award (club team players) is granted to juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, participated in the majority of the team's matches in the top-10 of the lineup during the season, and achieved a high academic standing at their institution. CSA Scholar Athletes represent the values of the association, specifically including student-athletes achieving a high level of play on court while excelling in the classroom. You can read the full release here.
Raghavan earned All-Ivy League honors and second-team All-America distinction after serving as the #1 player for Princeton during the 2018-19 season. He went 10-10 on the season and won the end-of-year Molloy Cup tournament to assure him All-America honors for the second time in three years. He had one of the most memorable individual wins of the season, a 3-2 victory over CSA semifinalist Andrew Douglas during a near-upset of Penn in January, and he provided the clinching victory in a 5-4 road win at Cornell.
Parkhurst recorded more wins in his junior season (eight) than his first two seasons combined (seven), and he did so while maintaining a .500 record against one of the nation's most challenging schedules. He was one of the most dependable players during Princeton's dramatic 3-0 finish to the regular season, which included upsets of both Dartmouth and Columbia; Parkhurst had a 3-2 win at #8 in the 5-4 victory over Columbia, and he used an 18-16 first-game victory to pick up a needed win at Cornell.
