No. 20 Princeton Uses Big Offensive Day In 56-42 Win Over Brown
October 16, 2021 | Football
Princeton rolled up 650 yards of total offense. Smith helped three wideouts reach 100 yards receiving in Jacob Birmelin (175), Dylan Classi (146) and Andrei Iosivas (140). The Tigers scored touchdowns on eight of their 12 possessions and punted one time. It's the third straight year Charles W. Caldwell '25 Head Coach of Football Bob Surace's squad has started 5-0, something that hasn't happened since 2004-06.
Â
Princeton's first two plays were a sign of how things would go offensively as Classi pulled in a catch of 19 yards followed by Iosvias taking in a 34-yard snag. Six plays later, Carson Bobo brought in a three-yard pass to put the visitors in front.
Â
Brown produced its second straight three-and-out before Surace's unit went down the field and scored again. There were two splash plays on the drive including Iosivas' remarkable 30-yard touchdown grab to put the Tigers up 14-0.
Â
Â
The Bears recorded their first scoring drive, registering a Graham Walker score two plays into the second frame.
Â
Then it was Classi's turn to hit pay dirt, scooting in from 51 yards away as Princeton jumped ahead 21-7.
Â
The two Ivy League opponents exchanged touchdown drives with Iosivas snagging his second of the contest to set the contest at 28-14.
Â
Brown produced one final score before the half, giving Princeton a 28-21 advantage at the break. The Tigers recorded 296 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes of game action.
Â
The first drive out of the second half for Princeton was highlighted by another splash play, a 24-yard catch by Birmelin. Eaddy finished off the drive in the end zone. He added another one on the next drive as the Tigers went up 42-21.
Â
After a Brown score, BIrmelin ran off for 67 yards before being tackled at the Brown eight-yard line. Eaddy took care of the rest for his third trip to the end zone.
Â
The Bears did not go away as Wes Rockett collected another touchdown, closing the gap to 14 for Brown, 49-35.
Â
Eaddy put the game as he went for a 37-yard jaunt for his career-high fourth touchdown. Ken Lim's interception in the end zone wrapped up the victory for Princeton.
Smith's 476 yards passing are the second most in Princeton history behind Robert C. Holly's 501 against Yale in Nov. of 1981. He was also the first Princeton quarterback to throw for four touchdowns in a game since Kevin Davidson vs. Brown in Oct. of 2019. Classi and Iosivas set new career highs in yards while Birmelin surpassed 100 career receptions.
