Princeton Athletics And RWJBarnabas Health Announce "Tiger Heroes" Series
March 12, 2021 | General
Princeton Athletics announced today in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, the official health care system of Princeton Athletics, a new initiative to honor front line workers and health care leaders from the Princeton Athletics alumni community. Starting on April 5, a digital and social series highlighting alumni from Princeton's 37 varsity athletics programs who have risen to the challenge in front-line roles since the onset of COVID-19 and are recognized as "Tiger Heroes" for their work.
"Typically, at this time of year, we are honoring student-athletes for their excellence on the field of play as they achieve, serve and lead while competing for the Tigers. As the world has rallied together during the global pandemic, it also feels right to focus on our other Tiger Heroes – former student-athletes who are healthcare professionals," stated Ford Family Director of Athletics Mollie Marcoux Samaan '91. "It's humbling to learn of the selfless pursuits of our Athletics alumni and the differences they have made in healthcare, especially this year. We're thrilled to document some of these stories with our friends at RWJBarnabas Health over the coming weeks."
Princeton has 94,000 living alumni including 20,000 athletics letter winners. Tiger Heroes will showcase at least one representative from each of the 37 varsity sports – through a series of profiles that will be unveiled weekly from April through June on www.goPrincetonTigers.com. While there are more than 1,500 student-athlete alumni working in the healthcare field, some notable Tiger Heroes include: the head of a vaccine task force at the CDC; a doctor who "moonlights" nightly with volunteer medical services to a major metro's homeless population; a surgeon who has published an article on the essential nature of compassion in COVID-care.
RWJBarnabas Health is New Jersey's most comprehensive academic health care system and is dedicated to creating healthier communities across the state. Its service area covers nine New Jersey counties serving over 5 million diverse residents, or more than half of the state's population.
