For the 11th time in program history and the eighth time in the last 12 opportunities, the Princeton women's fencing team has won the Ivy League championship.
The Tigers claimed the 2022 by sweeping through the rest of the league over the weekend at the Ivy round-robins at Brown, with the No. 1-ranked team in the nation never having a match closer than 18-9. The title is Princeton's first since 2017.
Along the way, Princeton swept the top honors in each weapon, with Chloe Fox-Gitomer going 12-2 (.857) to win the saber title, Maia Weintraub doing the same to win top honors in foil, and Jessica Lin also going 12-2 to win top honors in épée.
Six Tigers earned All-Ivy League recognition. Fox-Gitomer and Maia Chamberlain were first-team saber, Weintraub and May Tieu were first-team foil, Lin was first team épée, and Ryan Jenkins earned second-team saber recognition.
At 6-0, Princeton's women finished two matches ahead of both Columbia (4-2) and Harvard (4-2), with Penn and Yale each at 3-3, Cornell at 1-5, and Brown at 0-6.
On the men's side, Princeton finished fourth at 1-3 while Columbia swept through to win the title at 4-0 ahead of Harvard (3-1), Penn (2-2), Princeton and Yale (0-4). Two of Princeton's matches, against Penn and Columbia, were each decided by a single bout, finishing 14-13.
Foil Jasper Levy earned first-team All-Ivy on the men's side, and saber Zachary Johnson, foil Mohamed Hamza, and épées Michael Bissinger and Tristan Szapary were second-teamers.
