2021 Ivy League Champions Announce Schedule; Features Two Games on ESPNU
June 27, 2022 | Football
The 2021 Ivy League Champions, with its high-powered offense that led the conference in scoring and tenacious Top-10 defense, has announced its 2022 schedule which features two nationally-televised Friday night contests on ESPNU.
Â
Fans flocked back to Princeton Stadium this past fall, storming the field after a historic win over Harvard and celebrating the 13th Ivy League championship in program history. When the 2021 season was all done and dusted, Princeton was gathering together on Cannon Green for a spirited Bonfire which helped mark not only victories over Yale and Harvard but a true return of Princeton's proud traditions.
Â
"We are very excited for the 2022 season," said Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '25 Head Coach of Football Bob Surace. "The support from our fans has had a major impact on our team and we look forward to the students, alumni and community being right there with us in the fall!"
Â
The 152nd season of Princeton Football will begin with a road trip to Stetson in DeLand, Fla. on Sept. 17. Those two squads met for the first time ever last season with the Tigers earning a 63-0 decision.
Â
The Tigers welcomes Lehigh for the home opener on Sept. 24. Princeton has won three of the last four against Lehigh including a 32-0 victory to open the 2021 campaign.
Â
Surace's squad heads on the road for the next two contests, heading to the Big Apple to begin Ivy League action at Columbia on Oct. 1 before a battle with Lafayette on Oct. 8. The Tigers last faced off against the Leopards in 2019, collecting a 28-3 victory and have won three straight against the Lions highlighted by a 24-7 takedown in 2021.
Â
Princeton's first nationally-televised game of the season comes at home vs. Brown (Oct. 14) on ESPNU. The 2021 Ivy Champions have not lost to Brown since 2015, a streak that features them dropping 56 points in a 14-point win over the Bears in 2021.
Â
For the second straight week, the Tigers will be in the national spotlight as their contest at Harvard (Oct. 21) is also on ESPNU. These two Ivy foes met last year in a five-overtime thriller at Princeton Stadium with the home team securing an 18-16 victory.
Â
Princeton meets Cornell on Oct. 29 at home. The Tigers are on a three-game winning streak against the Big Red, having corralled a 34-16 triumph last fall. Â
Â
Two of the better teams in the Ivy League over the past several seasons, Dartmouth and Princeton, face off at Powers Field on Nov. 5. These two squads have won five of the last six Ivy crowns.
Â
Princeton finishes the road portion of the 2022 season at Yale on Nov. 12. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs, 35-20, at home in 2021.
Â
The regular season finale is home on Nov. 19 vs. Penn. The Tigers collected a 34-14 win over the Quakers last season to secure the Ivy League title. Surace's unit has won four of the last five meetings against Penn.
Â
Game times and further television information will be announced in the coming weeks.
