Women's Volleyball Wins Seventh-Straight, Downs Darmouth 3-0

HANOVER, N.H. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven matches Friday night inside Leede Arena, sweeping Dartmouth 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 26-24.)
Along with the match being the Tigers' seventh-straight win, it was also Princeton's fifth-straight sweep as the Tigers have now won 15-consecutive sets, and 18 out of their last 19.
Senior Avery Luoma led the way with a match-high 19 kills on a .581 hitting percentage, while senior Lindsey Kelly finished with a match-high 37 assists. Freshman Valerie Nutakor led the match in service aces with. Defensively, senior Cameron Dames tied the match-high in digs with 14, and freshman Lucia Scalamandre tied the match-high in blocks with two.
The opening set began as a back-and-forth battle; with the score tied at 16-16 a kill by Luoma sparked a 7-0 run that saw Princeton surge ahead, 23-16. Dartmouth responded with a 5-0 run, narrowing the deficit to three at 23-20. Despite the Big Green's late run, the Tigers managed to hold on and prevail in the set, with set point come at 25-21 following a kill by Scalamandre.
Princeton opened the second set with a Scalamandre kill, and a 5-0. While the Tigers' run was halted, a kill by Luoma led off a 3-0 run that helped Princeton surge ahead, 12-3. Shortly after, a Nutakor kill sparked a 4-0 run, giving the Tigers a double-digit advantage at 16-6. The Big Green responded with a 6-0 run, making it 16-12, but that's as close as Dartmouth would get. A Luoma kill sparked a 3-0 run that gave the Tigers set point at 24-16, and Princeton would take the set, 25-17.
The third began as a stalemate, but a Big Green service error followed by a Luoma kill gave Princeton a three-point lead at 10-7. A Dartmouth attacking error saw the Tigers take a five-point lead at 14-9, but the Big Green battled back to take an 18-17 lead following a 4-0 run. With Dartmouth up 21-19, the Tigers battled back to tie the score after a Luoma kill and a Big Green attacking error. Nutakor delivered in the clutch, giving Princeton match point at 25-24 with a kill, then sealing the win for the Tigers with a service ace, making it 26-24 in the set and 3-0 in the match.
