TigerBlog's post yesterday on the birth of Wyatt Madalon brought a lot of feedback, most of it on one subject.
What were TB's diapering tips, especially for boys?
First, in general, if you have a television in your bedroom, leave it on, with the sound turned off, all night long. That way, when the baby wakes up, you won't have to turn the lights on for feeding and changing and such, so the baby starts to get a sense of the difference between night and day. Also, you can watch the TV while you're feeding the baby. Win-win.
As for a boy, create a flap about 1/2 inch wide at the top of the diaper and then fold it back towards the baby's tummy. Trust him on this one. It'll come in handy one day.
Any other random advice TB can offer? Just let him know what subjects you want covered. Maybe he could start a side blog on the art of child-raising.
Having a newborn is not easy. Having one when your other children have moved past the baby stage is even harder. You forget all the things that went into the first year or two of child-raising.
Ah, how long ago it was. When Miss TigerBlog came along, three years after her brother, TB had no idea how to put the infant car seat back in the car and a bunch of stuff like that. And now? She is in Canada making some sort of presentation about an aerospace subject TB wouldn't understand in a million years.
It goes by really, really quickly.
MTB's former team, the Princeton women's lacrosse team, has itself a big game tonight at Penn, with the opening draw at 7.
The Princeton men (who host Harvard at 1 Saturday) became the first team to clinch a spot in the Ivy League men's tournament, which is being held at Columbia. The Tigers will play either at 6 or 8:30 on Friday, May 5, in the semifinals. For ticket information, click HERE.
Unlike the men, the women will have their tournament at the home of the top seed, and the winner of the game tonight between the Tigers and Quakers will have the inside track for that.
In fact, a Penn win tonight would clinch the home field for the Ivy tournament, as well as at least a tie for the championship. A Princeton win would tie the Tigers with the Quakers for first, but Princeton would have the head-to-head tiebreaker for the top seed and hosting spot.
Penn is currently 4-0. Princeton is 3-1 and the only one-loss team in the league. After those two, it goes like this: Yale and Harvard at 3-2; Dartmouth, Brown and Cornell at 2-3; and Columbia at 0-5.
Princeton comes into this game after its two-day marathon 20-16 win over Brown this past weekend. The Tigers led 15-8 in the third quarter when the game had a long delay due to lightning before it was eventually pushed back until Sunday to be finished. This meant that the Tigers had an even quicker turnaround to take on the Quakers.
Princeton and Penn are the two highest scoring teams in the league, with the Tigers first at 14.42 and Penn at 14.08. In Ivy games only, those averages are basically two goals per game higher.
Penn leads the league in shots and shots on goal. Princeton leads the league in shooting percentage. Penn has better overall defensive numbers. Princeton leads the league in save percentage.
Princeton would have the head-to-head over Penn for Ivy tournament home field with a win and then two more after that, at Dartmouth Saturday and then home against Harvard a week from Sunday. At the same time, the Tigers cannot clinch an ILT spot in the game tonight, though they would by beating Penn and Dartmouth or by losing to Penn but beating Dartmouth while Yale beats Cornell and Penn beats Brown, all on Saturday.
Ah, but today it's Wednesday. In Philadelphia, there is a huge game to be played.
By the way, do you know the last time there was a season when neither Princeton nor Penn won at least a share of the Ivy women's lacrosse title? That would be 2005.
