PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's rugby team continues its fall season Sunday against American International College Sunday at Ronald J. Abdow Field.
An Impressive Performance
The Tigers came close to earning their first 15s win at the varsity level on Sept. 9, falling 27-26 to Mount St. Mary's at the West Windsor Rugby Fields. Princeton, who led 12-0 at halftime, maintained the lead into the final moments of the match.
Clarke Shines
Amelia Clarke was dominant against the Mountaineers and ended the day with a hat trick. In addition, Clarke had a team-high 24 carries and made 10 tackles. Over the summer, she was selected for the USA Rugby Women's U20 team and played in matches against Canada and Wales.
Impressive Freshmen
A trio of Tiger freshmen all turned in impressive performances against Mount St. Mary's. Hannah Mulligan led the team in tackles with 13 and had 11 carries, which ranked second on the team. Celia Watson scored one try, tied with Laura Esguerra for second on the team in tackles with 11 and had nine carries while Malinka Kwemo made nine tackles and had nine carries.
Defensive Stalwart
For the second week in a row Leilani Bender was in the top three for tackles, finishing with nine.
Scouting AIC
AIC is 1-1 on the season, defeating NIRA Division II opponent New Haven 108-0 in its most recent match on Sept. 15.
