Full Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton University women's rugby team Head Coach Josie Ziluca announced the Tigers' 2024 spring schedule Tuesday afternoon.
Princeton fans will have three opportunities to see the Tigers at home at the West Windsor Field this spring. The Tigers will play four XVs matches and three 7s tournament.
The Tigers open with a XVs match at Stanford on Mar. 15, before returning east for another XVs match, this time at Sacred Heart on Mar. 23. Princeton's first sevens tournament takes place on Mar. 30 at the West Chester Sevens, before the Tigers host Navy in sevens on Mar. 31. The Tigers then host the Emperor Sevens on Apr. 14 then make the trip to Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the Ivy Sevens on Apr. 20. Princeton wrap up regular season competition for the spring at home against Navy in a XVs match on Apr. 27.
"Our Women's Rugby team is back in action this Spring with a full schedule of both XVs and 7s matches," said Head Coach Josie Ziluca. "The Spring season allows our team to adopt systems of play that can be difficult to onboard during our regular Fall XVs season. We have a great platform to work from and we're excited to have our season opening match in California against Stanford. They will be at the end of their own season, so we'll be working hard to make sure things are tightened up before we take the pitch during Spring Break.
We're lucky to be given the task of balancing both XVs and 7s in one season. Historically, we have focused on only the code of 7s in the Spring, but the opportunities to continue to develop the XVs code are present and we're scooping them up. This is an effort to have stronger performances in the Fall. There are three occasions in which the school and surrounding communities can come out to West Windsor Rugby field and cheer our Tigers on Mar. 31 we'll be playing Navy in a scrimmage at 12:00 p.m. On Apr. 14, we'll be hosting a large 7s tournament, Emperor 7s, with West Chester, Penn State, Navy, and West Point as our guests. That tournament will run from 9:00 a.m. to about 5:30 p.m., so please come out and watch us play Olympic-style rugby!
Just after our own home 7s tournament, we'll be traveling up to Cambridge to play in the annual Ivy 7s tournament. Our last home contest will be a rematch against Navy in a formal XVs game on Apr. 27 at 12:00 pm on West Windsor Field. Finally, our team will be in contention to play in a National Collegiate 7s tournament in Houston, Texas, at the beginning of May.
We will keep everyone apprised of those details as they come. Hurry up and get these dates in your calendar, we're looking forward to seeing everyone pitch-side supporting our Rugby student-athletes slicing up the field, making big tackles, and scoring tries! Go Tigers!"
