Women's Rugby Hosts Emperor 7s

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's rugby team hosted the Emperor 7's Sunday at the West Windsor Rugby Field.
The Tigers Open team kicked off the first pool match with a tight game against West Chester University followed by the Tiger Elite team putting an impressive 24 points up against West Chester's 5 to start the day.
Princeton's next opponent of the day was the Naval Academy where the Tigers' Elite Team came out on top with a 29-7 final score. The Tigers' Open team gave a valiant effort in another close match falling to Navy, 24-21.
The final opponent for the Tigers was Penn State, who gave Princeton's Open Team another intense, hard fought 14 minutes finishing with a 17-12 win for the Nittany Lions. In the final pool play match of the day, the Elite division saw the Tigers versus the Nittany Lions, with the Tigers ruling the jungle, 34-5, putting them into first place at the end of pool play.
The Princeton Open team took on West Chester for their final match following pool play and used their impressive defense to hold the Golden Rams to 20 points but unfortunately falling to them by one try. Penn State took first place in the Open division after a final against Navy resulting in a 20-12 score line.
For the Elite Division, Penn State took on West Chester in its consolation match resulting in a Penn State win. The Tigers faced Navy in the Elite division championship. After both teams left it all out on the pitch, Navy took the Emperor 7's Championship with Princeton as the runner up, culminating a fantastic day of rugby.
The trophies were presented by Emil Signes, who is a pillar in the Princeton Rugby and wider rugby community. Thank you to all the teams and alumni, Princeton staff, family and friends that came to support Princeton Women's Rugby.
This weekend, the Tigers will send one team to compete in the Ivy 7s Championship. Princeton will host Navy in a final XVs exhibition match on Apr. 27 at West Windsor Rugby field.
