No. 2 UCLA Holds Off Men's Water Polo Team in NCAA Quarterfinals
December 05, 2025 | Men's Water Polo
Making its fifth straight NCAA Championships appearance, the Princeton men's water polo team battled No. 2 UCLA to a 15-11 defeat on Friday evening at the Avery Aquatic Center at Stanford in the NCAA quarterfinals.
UCLA got out to a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter, and though the Bruins' lead never got larger than six at 10-4 and 11-5 in the third quarter, UCLA kept the Tigers no closer than three after getting out to the first-quarter lead.
Gavin Appeldorn and Finn LeSieur co-led Princeton with two goals apiece. With his 82nd assist of the season, JP Ohl finished with the second-most helpers in a season in program history, behind only Ryan Wilson's 86 in 2017, and finished his career with a program-record 246 assists. LeSieur's two goals gave him 51 for the season, making him the fifth Tiger to get to 50 goals this season and marking the first time Princeton has had five 50-goal scorers in a season, along with Taylor Bell (58), Logan McCarroll (57), Adam Peocz (56) and Enrique Nuño (52).
McCarroll was named as one of seven players on the All-NCAA Tournament second team.
