Black History Month Feature: Aaron Richard
February 28, 2025 | Football, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Princeton Athletics is proud to celebrate the heritage and culture of our Black student-athletes during Black History Month! As part of this celebration, we will be featuring Q&As with members of Princeton's Black Student-Athlete Collective.
A junior defensive lineman with Princeton's football team, Aaron Richard is currently Co-President of the Black Student-Athlete Council at Princeton. He has played in 17 career games for the Tigers on the gridiron, including all 10 this past season where he had 14 total tackles.
How do you celebrate Black History Month, and what does it mean to you both personally and professionally?
Black History Month is more than a moment on the calendar—it's a time to honor the achievements of those who came before us, reflect on their resilience, and learn from their experiences.
What role have your family and community played in supporting your athletic career?
The opportunities I have today didn't come without sacrifice. Both of my grandparents attended segregated schools and navigated systemic barriers throughout their lives. Their perseverance paved the way for me, and I carry that legacy with me in everything I do.
How do you leverage your platform as a Black student-athlete at Princeton to advocate for or support Black communities?
As I work toward becoming an architect, I hope to use my skills to create lasting impact—uplifting communities and inspiring future generations. Black history is not just something we reflect on; it's something we continue to build every day.
