Women's Rugby Competes At Ivy 7s
April 19, 2025 | Women's Rugby
Celia Watson led the Tigers in tries with two, while Ava Gregory, Josie Frazer and Ciara Loughran also scored.
"It was a great tournament for the Princeton rugby program, both men and women," said Head Coach Josie Ziulca. "It all started with having a program dinner last night at the hotel in Cambridge, it was great for the connection of our teams. For today, our women's team had wonderful first game against Harvard. We rose to the challenge and stuck to our framework and stuck with that throughout the day. We got playing time for a lot of people and it was a team effort throughout the tournament.
There wasn't really one game that had a standout performance from one person, it was a standout performance from every team member. We really utilized this Ivy Tournament to catapult us into the next level of performing for 7s Nationals, which we'll be traveling to in two weeks. We've put ourselves in a great position for that tournament to perform well.
I'm just so proud of the team for everything they've accomplished, to get this far and compete against some of the best teams in the nation and to continue to have closer scorelines every season. It's amazing to see these student-athletes on this team push themselves, push each other, work through really hard scenarios and find one another on the other side. As a coaching staff we feel so lucky to be a part of it. The season is not done yet, which means the job is not done yet.
I also want to thank our alumni for coming out to both our program dinner last night and to the field at Harvard to support both our men's and women's teams. I really appreciate it and we feel the love. We're looking forward to seeing more familiar faces from our alumni this coming weekend at our grand opening of Haaga House, we're really excited to have this moment in this phenomenal facility. We hope that we can have a lot of fans out for our game on the 26th, kickoff will be at 12 p.m. and the match will be against Sacred Heart University, who was our very first Varsity opponent. It will be a friendly match and our final competition at home before we travel to Indianapolis for nationals. We'll also be celebrating our seniors and the conclusion of our regular Spring season."
