Football Names Captains For 2026 Season

PRINCETON – The Princeton Football Team has named four captains for the 2026 season.
Evan Haynie, Torian Roberts, Joey Wassler and Oyintare Porbeni were selected by the team with the announcement coming today after practice.
I love the leadership that Evan, Torian, Joey and Tare have shown since we've returned in January," said Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '25 Head Coach of Football Bob Surace. "The players had a difficult selection because of the quality of our senior class. I couldn't be more excited about these four men with the C on their uniform and how well they represent our program.
Haynie was Honorable Mention All-Ivy last season after placing fourth in the conference in interceptions (three) and eighth in passes defended (nine).
"To be one of the guys to lead this program that has so much history is amazing," said Haynie. "This senior class is very strong, and we have a lot of guys that will push us to get better every day."
Roberts was second team All-Ivy in 2025 after turning into one of the premier defensive backs in the league. He was tied for the Ivy lead with four interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown in the win over Lafayette.
"It means a lot to me," said Roberts about being name captain. "The guys trust me to be an example for this team and that's what I'll continue to do throughout the season."
Wassler has seen action in 21 games, recording 16 catches for 134 yards in his time with Princeton.
"When I was a freshman, I looked up to Ozzie Nicholas, Liam Johnson, Jalen Travis and all of the leaders on that team and it feels like so long, but it's such an honor to be named a captain," said Wassler. "I hope the four of us can provide that sort of leadership for the team.
Porbeni started every game last season as the right tackle, earning Phil Steele Fourth Team All-Ivy.
"This is the world to me," said Porbeni. "From this school and especially the team, my life has completely changed. The coaches took a chance on me as a skinny kid from Minnesota who didn't know much football and to be named captain by the team, I'm thankful for it. Princeton Football has truly changed my life, and I want to pay it forward."
