Zach Beckmann scored 22 goals for Princeton as a junior, marking his third season scoring 20 or more goals. He also contributed 18 assists and 15 steals during the season. Beckmann’s goals were spread throughout the season as he never scored more than two goals in a game, but he did that on six occasions, including the semifinal and title games of Easterns. He recorded a season-high three assists in a win over George Washington.
Beckmann ranked third on the team in scoring with 35 goals in 2005. He also added nine assists and 16 steals over the course of the season. Beckmann had back-to-back two-goal games to begin the season and scored in 20 games during the season. His season high of four came in a league loss at Johns Hopkins. That performance started an eight-game goal scoring streak for Beckmann, who ended the season with goals in 11 of 12 games. He had 12 multiple-goal games on the season, including a three-goal performance at Easterns against Harvard and two goals in wins over Slippery Rock, Navy and Cal Baptist.
As a freshman, Beckmann was a candidate for the league’s Rookie of the Year award after ranking third on the team in goals scored with 31. Beckmann scored his first career goal against UC Santa Cruz in his first game and scored in four of the Tigers’ five games during the season-opening Princeton Invitational. He scored a career-high five goals in a mid-season league win over Salem International. He also added goals in games against UC Santa Barbara, Air Force, UC Davis and in the NCAA third-place game against Loyola Marymount.
Beckmann came to Princeton with six years of water polo experience, including three varsity seasons in high school. He helped his team reach the CIF Division III finals in his senior year and was named the team’s most outstanding player. He was a two-time all-CIF pick and California-Hawaii All-American.
