Chris Kelsch ranked fourth on Princeton in goals scored for the second-straight season as he scored 26 goals. Kelsch’s scoring was spread out as he never went more than two games in a row without scoring. He scored a season-high four goals in a win against Salem, and had three in a win against Gannon. Kelsch had five other two goal games, which came against Fordham, George Washington, St. Francis, Cal Baptist and Bucknell.
Kelsch found the net 25 times as a sophomore. His 25 goals were spread throughout the season as they came in 17 different games. He scored two goals on five occasions during the season: in wins over UC Santa Cruz, St. Francis, Brown and Navy in the Southern Championship game, and a loss to Stanford. He also tallied goals against ranked opponents UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State.
Kelsch led Princeton in assists as a freshman with 19 and finished third in steals (24) and fourth in goals (27). He started his water polo career in seventh grade with the Stanford club and was a three-year varsity starter in high school. He was a second-team all-CCS pick in 2001-02, a first-team all-league choice in 2001 and the league MVP in 2002. Kelsch was also a four-year varsity swimmer.
