IN HIS OWN WORDS….
I became a fellow because my own experience as a Princeton (Track and Field) student-athlete was transformative. The most rewarding aspect? Spending time with student-athletes who are funny, engaging, talented, and bleed Orange and Black.
As an Academic-Athletic fellow to Basketball and Men’s Track and Field, I mentor, cheer from the sidelines and help make alumni connections. But mainly, I show up. I attend games and drop in on practices. I’ve been invited to team banquets, traveled to away contests, and even sat in on film sessions. I make myself available and share cool on-campus opportunities. Princeton has so much to offer, and it can be easy to miss out. I try to highlight job opportunities, on-campus events or speakers for teams, or point in the direction of a needed resource or administrator.
The “be A TIGER” values are spiritual cousins to my (acronymless) personal and professional values of integrity, honesty, decency, and virtue. I’m thrilled that Princeton Athletics makes values an explicit part of the student-athlete experience.
My role is to ensure that current student-athletes have an even better experience than I had—earning more championships, competing (and winning!) against better competition, AND experiencing key lessons— ultimately, finding a sense of belonging at this place and in life.
Being a member of the Team around the Team has taught me a lot about program-building. Academic and athletic experiences at Princeton are built together. The work we do today benefits the current generation -- and sets the stage for those yet to come.
