Chris Cottrell appeared in all 33 games for the Tigers and scored 16 goals while adding six assists, 22 steals and drawing five ejections. Cottrell started the final 12 games for Princeton down the stretch and scored goals in 13 games, three times netting two goals in a game. His two-goal performances came in wins over George Washington, Fordham and St. Francis in the Eastern semifinals. Cottrell scored goals in all three games at Easterns, netting single goals in the opening round against Iona and the championship game win against Navy. He also had a steal and two drawn ejections in that win. Cottrell had a pair of three-steal games during the season in wins over Johns Hopkins and Navy. Cottrell started both games at the NCAA Championships and won two sprints in Princeton's win over UC San Diego for third place.
Cottrell started all 27 games for the Tigers as a junior and set career highs in all categories with 32 goals, 11 assists, 35 steals and 10 drawn ejections. His goal total of 32 ranked fourth on the team and was a 23-goal improvement from his sophomore year total, helping him to second-team All-Southern honors. Cottrell ended the year with his third straight selection to CWPA and ACWPC All-Academic Teams. Cottrell had two nine-game scoring streaks during the season and netted a career-high of four goals in the Southern Championship game, a win over Bucknell. He added eight two-goal games, scoring twice in wins over the likes of Fordham, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Redlands and Gannon. Cottrell added multiple assists in wins over George Washington and MIT and had a team-high eight steals in a league win over Johns Hopkins. He added a four-steal game in the Southern Championship game against Bucknell and had three in the semifinal win over Hopkins.
Cottrell played in all 28 games as a sophomore and chipped in nine goals, six assists and seven steals. A CWPA All-Academic Team selection, Cottrell scored a goal and added an assist in a win over George Washington at home. He added goals in back-to-back games during Fall Break, scoring twice against UC Irvine and once versus Pacific. Cottrell scored two goals and added two assists in the win over Gannon to open the Southern Championships. Cottrell also scored in the Eastern opening win over MIT and delivered Princeton's game-winning goal to defeat Navy 5-4 in the Eastern Title game.
Cottrell appeared in 23 games as a Princeton freshman, scoring three goals on 17 shots and adding two assists and five steals. A member of both the ACWPC and CWPA All-Academic Teams, Cottrell recorded his first collegiate point, an assist, in his first game played, a loss to UC San Diego. Cottrell had a season high two goals in a win over George Washington and also scored in a win over Queens. Cottrell had an assist and a steal in a win over Bucknell.
Cottrell scored 75 goals and had 19 assists and 30 steals last season as his team won the Pacific Coast League Championship and reached the CIF Southern Division Quarterfinals. Cottrell was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and was a second-team All-CIF Southern Division honoree. He also helped his team to Pacific Coast League Championships the previous two seasons as well.
