Casey Dowd joined the Princeton men's lacrosse staff in January 2024. An accomplished face-off specialist as a college and professional player, Dowd's primary responsibility with the Tigers is at the X.
His first season at Princeton saw the team finish better than .500 in face-offs for the first time since 2012 as the team won a second-straight Ivy League tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third straight year. Under Dowd's leadership, Princeton's Andrew McMeekin set the program record with 132 ground balls and finished third all-time on Princeton's single-season list with 199 face-offs. McMeekin also was the Most Outstanding Player at the Ivy League tournament.
Dowd came to Princeton after spending seven years on the staff at Colby in the NESCAC. He also coached at Division II power Mercyhurst for one year.
His playing career saw him win the MAAC Face-Off Specialist of the Year as a senior in 2014, when he went 230 for 391 with three goals, one assist and 151 ground balls while helping the Saints to the NCAA tournament. He finished his career going 775 for 1,420 with 472 ground balls, all of which are Siena records and all of which rank him in the top 15 in NCAA Division I history. After graduating, he played for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.
Dowd's wife Renee is the head coach of the Bates women's lacrosse team.
