A Message From Coach Len Quesnelle

Dear Friends,
Hello again from Baker Rink. In this 100th year of Princeton Hockey our season is finally underway and our ECAC opening weekend is fast approaching. The season officially started with a scrimmage against Ivy League rival Cornell at Baker. It proved to be a good test after being together as a group for only eight days of practice. Although no official score was kept, we were able to take a measurement of certain areas of our game.
The following weekend, Wilfrid Laurier (Canadian University) made the trip from Waterloo, Ont., for one game. This game provided us with an opportunity to play a team which was more game-ready than us. There were many positives to draw from the game as we inserted a number of players into the lineup.
This past weekend we were playing for keeps so to speak as Niagara University was in town for a two-game series. Niagara is coached by Blaise MacDonald, a former assistant coach here at Princeton my senior year. Blaise has done an outstanding job as Niagara made the NCAA Tournament last year and beat UNH in the West Regional.
The weekend games versus Niagara were a great barometer for us in many respects. Niagara was clearly more game ready, playing in their seventh and eighth games of the year. Our players battled hard and competed both nights. Offensively we did not have the type of weekend we were looking for, however, we remained committed defensively and received good outings from goaltenders Dave Stathos and Nate Nomeland.
As we head into the weekend versus Clarkson and St. Lawrence, our staff is very encouraged by our players' effort and level of commitment thus far. We hope you have an opportunity to catch the action here at Baker.
Sincerely,
Len Quesnelle '88
