MEN'S BASKETBALL: 2-2 (0-0 Ivy League)
Last week: Defeated Weber State 65-60 in overtime (Dec. 1), defeated Ball State 49-47 (Dec. 2) to win the First Merchants Classic.This week: at Lafayette (Dec. 6), vs. Xavier (Dec. 9)
Highlights:
- Mike Bechtold (Jr., Lebanon, Pa.) scored 27 points on 7 for 16 three-point shooting and added 10 rebounds to make the all-tournament team and be named Ivy League Player of the Week.
- Nate Walton (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) returned from an ankle sprain to have a career-high 15 points against Ball State and 10 assists and 10 rebounds in two games to make the all-tournament team.
- Kyle Wente (So., Effingham, Ill.) had a career-high 13 points against Weber State, including a key driving layup in the final minute of overtime.
- Ed Persia (Fr., Beaumont, Texas) shot 6 for 12 from three-point range in two games, he was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: 0-4 (0-0 Ivy League)
Last week: Lost to Delaware 66-47 (Nov. 29).This week: at Lafayette (Dec. 6).
Highlights:
- Sophomore forward/center Maureen Lane (Seattle, Wash.) has led the Tigers offensively in two of the teams four games. Against the Tigers most recent opponent Delaware, she scored 15 points. She currently leads the team in overall scoring with 11.8 points per game as the only Princeton player to average double-figures.
- Sophomore Lee Culp (High Point, N.C.) is second on the team in scoring and leads the team in rebounding with 7.0 boards per game.
The team will face Lafayette on Wednesday, Dec. 6 on the road in the first game of a men's and women's double-header. The Tigers will return home on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. to face Army.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: 22-8 (9-1 Ivy League)
Last Week: Lost in NCAA First-Round contest at Nebraska (Dec. 1) 3-0 (9-15, 2-15, 7-15).Next Week: Season Complete.
Highlights:
- Princeton played in front of a season-high 4,000 people in the Coliseum when it took on Nebraska in the first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball tournament. Prior to Saturday's match, the largest crowd that the Tigers played in front of was 250 people.
- Kelly Cramm (Fr., Laguna Beach, Calif.) and Ana Yoerg (Jr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) were selected to the all-tournament team at the Ivy League Championships.
- Princeton's Sabrina King (Sr., Laguna Beach, Calif.) had a team-high nine kills against Nebraska on Saturday Dec. 1st.
- Kellie Cramm (Fr., Laguna Beach, Calif.) was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY: 4-5-1 (2-5-1 ECAC)
Last Week: Defeated St. Cloud State 5-4 (Dec. 1) and 4-3 OT (Dec. 2).This Week: vs. Providence (Dec. 9) and Northeastern (Dec. 10).
Highlights:
- Princeton won consecutive games for the first time this season beating St. Cloud State at home 5-4 on Friday and 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. It was also the first overtime game for the Tigers this season.
- Princeton had three players with multiple point games over the weekend- Andrea Kilbourne (Jr., Saranac Lake, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists, Abbey Fox (Sr., Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) had one goal and three assists and Nikola Holmes (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) had two assists and the game-winning goal on Friday. Kilbourne also had three assists and the game-winning goal in overtime on Saturday.
MEN'S SQUASH: 3-0 (2-0 Ivy League)
Last week: Defeated Brown 9-0 (Dec.1).This week: vs. Franklin & Marshall (Dec. 5).
Highlights:
- Will Evans (So., Auckland, New Zealand) won at No. 1.
- Princeton won eight matches in three games.
WOMEN'S SQUASH: 2-0 (1-0 Ivy League)
Last week: Lost to Brown 5-4 (Dec. 1), defeated Franklin &Marshall.This week: Idle.
Highlights:
- Julia Beaver (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) won both of her matches at No. 1.
- Akanksha Hazari (Fr., Hong Kong) won at No. 2 against Brown and No. 3 against F&M.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING: 3-0 (3-0 Ivy League)
Last Week: Won the Princeton Invitational (Dec. 1-3), defeated Brown in a dual meet.This Week: Idle.
Highlights:
- The women's team finished the meet with 1,103.50 points, 178.50 points over second place Brown (925). 23rd ranked Tennessee was third with 908.50 points.
- Princeton swimmers set two records, Valerie Kukla (Jr., Maple Glen, Pa.) broke the Princeton and DeNunzio pool record in the 500 freestyle with her time of 4:53.78, and Kate Conroy (Jr., Haddonfield, N.J.), Chrissy Holland (So., Bernarsville, N.J.), Molly Seto (So., Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Sangeeta Puri (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.) shaved more than a second off of the 200 medley relay Princeton and DeNunzio pool record with a time of 1:43.13.
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING: 3-0 (3-0 Ivy League)
Last Week: Placed second at the Princeton Invitational (Dec. 1-3), defeated Brown in a dual meet.This Week: vs. Army.
Highlights:
- The men's team placed second with 928 points behind seventh ranked Tennessee who won the event with 1,035. Brown was third with 649 and 19th ranked Penn State was fourth.
- Top finishers for Princeton include Juan Valdivieso (Fr.,Bethesda Md.) with a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle and Kevin Volz (Jr., Ft. Myers, Fla.) who took second (15:25.48) in the 1,650 free. The relay team of Chris Gratian (Sr., Modesto, Calif.), James Leahy (So., Toledo, Ohio), Mike Salerno (Fr., Jacksonville, Fla.) and Jesse Gage (So., Dix Hill, N.Y.) placed second in the 200 free relay (1:22.11) and the relay team of Andrew Chadeayne (Sr., Pleasantville, N.Y.), John Evans (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio), Craig Wales (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio), and Gage placed second (1:31.57) in the 200 medley.
MEN'S ICE HOCKEY
Last Week: Won 7-4 at Colgate (Dec. 1) and lost 3-0 at Cornell (Dec. 2).This Week: vs. Union (Dec. 8) and vs. Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute (Dec. 9).
Highlights:
- Sophomore goaltender Nate Nomeland (Fargo, N.D.) recorded his second victory of the season in the 7-4 win over Colgate (Dec. 1). Nomeland is 2-0-1 this season when starting in goal.
- Kirk Lamb (Sr., Cold Lake, Alberta) had two assists in the 7-4 win at Colgate (Dec. 1).
- Senior assistant captain Shane Campbell (Red Deer, Alberta) scored twice in the 7-4 win at Colgate (Dec. 1).
- Chris Corrinet (Sr., Greenfield, Mass.) scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season in the 7-4 win at Colgate (Dec. 1).
MEN'S FENCING
Last Week: Defeated N.Y.U. 16-11 and lost to Penn St. 15-12 (both on Dec. 2).Next Week: Idle.
Highlights:
- Soren Thompson (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) went 3-0 in men's epee against N.Y.U (Dec. 2).
- Terry Kim (Sr., Wyckoff, N.J.) finished 3-0 in the men's sabre competition against N.Y.U. and 2-0 in the men's sabre competition vs. Penn St. (Dec. 2).
- Dustin Reagan (Sr., Oklahoma City, Okla.) finished 2-1 in men's foil against N.Y.U. (Dec. 2).
WOMEN'S FENCING
Last Week: Defeated N.Y.U. 18-9 and lost to Penn St. 17-11 (Dec. 2).Next Week: Idle.
Highlights:
- Lindsay Campbell (Jr., Shaker Heights, Ohio) went 2-1 in the women's foil competition against Penn St. (Dec. 2).
- Sophomore Mindy Rostal (Maplewood, Minn.) finished 2-1 in the women's foil competition against Penn St. (Dec. 2).
WRESTLING: 6-1 (0-0 Ivy League)
Last week: Defeated East Stroudsburg 33-6, American International 44-6 and Springfield at the East Stroudsburg Duals (Dec. 2), defeated Williams 33-15, New Hampshire 48-6, Roger Williams 33-18 and lost to New York University 22-21 at the Roger Williams Dual Meet Classic for a first place team finish (Dec. 2).Next week: vs. The College of New Jersey (Dec. 8), Tiger Open (JV) (Dec. 9).
Highlights:
- Freshman Andrew Azvec (Austinburg, Ohio) took home the Outstanding Wrestler Award after competing in the 165-pound weight class at the Roger Williams Dual Meet Classic. Teammate Steve Koshgerian (So., Glen Mills, Pa.) joined Azvec on the All-Tournament Team as he competed in the 149-pound weight class.
- The Tigers start the season with a 6-1 record after suffering a 3-10 record a year ago.
- The Tigers open their home schedule against The College of New Jersey on Friday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
