Oct. 17, 2001
The ninth Infiniti Lacrosse Invitational returns to Princeton with a new look after a one-year absence. This year's event is scheduled for this Sunday, Oct. 21, beginning at 10 a.m.
In a change from year's past, the 2001 ILI will be played exclusively at Class of 1952 Stadium and will feature four teams. Princeton and Delaware will play first at 10 a.m., following at noon by Towson and Navy, at 2 p.m. by Navy and Delaware and at 4 p.m. by Princeton and Towson. No champion will be named, and all four games will be full-length.
Admission will be $5, with all proceeds going to the John Schroeder '92 Memorial Fund, in memory of the Princeton defensemen killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.
Princeton won its sixth NCAA championship in the last 10 seasons this past Memorial Day, when it defeated Syracuse 10-9 in overtime. The ILI game against Towson will be a rematch of the NCAA semifinal from this spring, a game Princeton won 12-11 against Tony Seaman's upstart Towson team.
Navy comes off a 9-4 season, while Delaware was 6-9 in 2001.
The Infiniti Lacrosse Invitational has contributed more than $50,000 to the Central Jersey Pediatric Aids Foundation in its history.
