Another Sunday. Another opponent in Red and White. Another massive third quarter. Another Princeton men's lacrosse win.
Â
This time it was the opening round of the NCAA tournament, where top-seeded Princeton defeated Marist 17-8 to reach the quarterfinals for the second straight year and third time in five years. Princeton will take on Penn State at the University of Delaware this coming Sunday; you might remember that Princeton started its season with a 13-7 loss to the Nittany Lions.
Â
Since then, Princeton has rolled to a 14-2 record to earn the top seed. The 17 goals also made the 2026 Princeton team the highest scoring in program history, with 238.
Â
Like a week ago against Cornell in the Ivy League tournament championship game, Princeton again broke a game wide open in the third quarter, as what was an 8-4 Tiger lead at the half became 16-4 at the end of the third. Last weekend it was a 9-1 Princeton third quarter, and in fact Princeton has now outscored its last five opponents by a combined 31-4 in the third quarter.
Â
Chad Palumbo once again had a huge NCAA day, racking up six goals to tie his career high and equal his own program record for goals in an NCAA game. This was the sixth time a Princeton player has scored six in an NCAA game, and Palumbo has now done it twice.
Â
Â
Tucker Wade had a pair of goals, giving him 31 for the season, and John Dunphey had a goal and three assists. Shortstick D Middie Quinn Krammer had two goals after having one all season.
Â
Ryan Croddick 14 saves while allowing six goals before being relieved in the fourth quarter by Colin Vickrey and Carter Johnson. Andrew McMeekin went 11 for 15 on face-offs with nine groundballs.
Â
Princeton never trailed in the game and led by four at the end of the first quarter and at the half. Marist, the MAAC champ, won the play-in game over Stony Brook Wednesday night.
