Women's Hockey Hands Mercyhurst 3-1 Defeat
November 04, 2001 | Women's Ice Hockey
The two teams played through a scoreless 30 minutes before freshman April Brown (Savage, Minn.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career at 10:04 of the second period to put the Tigers on the board. Sophomore Gretchen Anderson (Natick, Mass.) passed the puck to classmate Angela Gooldy (New Hartford, N.Y.) and the resulting shot was deflected back to Brown, who fired a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 Tiger lead.
Princeton increased its lead when sophomore Lisa Rasmussen (Washington, D.C.) tallied the eventual game-winner at 15:50 of the second period. Senior co-captain Melissa Deland (Washington, D.C.) and sophomore Katharine Maglione (Fayetteville, N.Y.) each picked up assists on the play. Rasmussen scored again at 7:54 of the final period to give the Tigers a three-goal cushion. A Deland shot was saved but the rebound kicked out to Rasmussen who collected the loose puck and found the back of the net. Gooldy also registered an assist on the play.
Ahlquist lost her bid for a shutout when the Tracy Logan scored at 14:31 of the third period off of an assist from Kelly Raycroft but Princeton held on for the 3-1 victory.
Ahlquist picked up the win, registering 35 saves for a total of 65 stops on the weekend. Tiffany Ribble played the first two periods between the pipes for the Lady Lakers and registered six saves while allowing two goals. Desirae Clark closed out the game in goal for Mercyhurst, posting five saves and allowing one goal.
