PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey team got a goal from sophomore Lisa Rasmussen (Washington, D.C.) and 23 saves from junior Sarah Ahlquist (South St. Paul, Mich.) but still suffered a 2-1 loss to St. Lawrence in Eastern College Athletic Conference action on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Junior Shannon Smith (Fernie, B.C.) opened the scoring for the Saints with her third goal of the season at 7:05 as St. Lawrence was skating on the power play. Sophomore Kelly Sage (Anjou, Ont.) picked up an assist on the play.
Smith gave the Saints a two-goal cushion at 6:24 of the second period when she collected a loose puck and fired a shot into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Ricki-Lee Doyle (Calgary, Alb.) and freshman Rebecca Russell (Clarenville, Newfoundland) each assisted on the play.
Rasmussen finally put the Tigers on the board at 11:12 of the third period with an unassisted goal as she was diving across the crease to register her third tally of the season. That closed the gap to 2-1, but Princeton could not muster any more offense as it was outshot 25-17 on the night and the Saints were able to hold on for the 2-1 win.
Ahlquist finished with 23 saves while St. Lawrence netminder Rachel Barrie (Arnprior, Ont.) made 16 saves in the win.
Princeton (1-2-0, 0-1-0 ECAC-N) will conclude its two-game series against St. Lawrence (3-2-0, 1-0-0 ECAC-N), last season's NCAA runner-upon at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Hobey Baker Rink.
