COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State's Heather Farrell (So., Perth, Ont.) scored a breakaway goal with 38 seconds remaining in overtime to hand the Princeton women's hockey team a 2-1 loss in the series finale at OSU Ice Rink.
The Tigers were able to capitalize on a Buckeye turnover deep within their own zone when Susan Hobson (So., Mississauga, Ont.) scored at the 13:45 mark of the first period off of an assist from Gretchen Anderson (So., Natick, Mass.). Shots in the first period were even, 6-6.
Less than two minutes into the second stanza, Erin O'Grady (So., London, Ont.) knotted the game at one with her first goal of the season. Farrell had the puck along the boards and sent it to Lindsey Ogren (Jr., North Oaks, Minn.) who found O'Grady in front of the net.
Princeton killed two Ohio State power play opportunities in the second to keep the game tied at 1-1. Shana Frost (Jr., Frankford, Ont.) drew a penalty shot for the hosts but was unable to convert on the shot. The two teams battled through a scoreless third period, which sent the game into overtime, where Farrell game the Buckeyes the 2-1 win.
Ohio State held a 31-29 shot advantage in the game. Melissa Glaser (Jr., Rockford, Ill.) finished with 28 saves, while Tiger netminder Sarah Ahlquist (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) recorded 29 saves in the overtime loss.
Princeton will travel to Dartmouth and Vermont on Jan. 5 and 6 for a pair of ECAC games, scheduled for 2 p.m. The Tigers will return to Hobey Baker Rink on Friday, Jan. 11 to host Harvard at 7 p.m. They will close out the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host Brown at 4 p.m.
