HANOVER, NH - Gretchen Anderson (So., Natick, MA) registered two goals and an assist as she led the Princeton women's hockey team to a 3-1 win over No. 4 Dartmouth in Eastern College Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Thompson Arena.
The Big Green was undefeated at home during the 2000-01 season, and had not lost on its home ice since a 5-4 loss to Providence on March 4, 2000. Dartmouth won the Ivy League title last season, as well as the ECAC regular season and tournament championships.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first period before Dartmouth's Carly Haggard scored the game's first goal when she tipped in a pass from Kristin King 1:58 into the second period.
The Tigers evened the score less then five minutes later as Anderson scored a power play goal off of assists from Nikola Holmes (Jr., Apple Valley, MN) and Susan Hobson (So., Mississauga, ONT). Great goaltending by Princeton netminder Megan Van Beusekom (So., Loretto, MN) and Big Green goalie Amy Ferguson kept the score tied for the first 17:43 of the final period.
Holmes broke the 1-1 deadlock with 2:17 remaining in the game when scored off of a rebound. Anderson and Hobson picked up assists on the play.
Dartmouth pulled its goalie with 1:29 left in the contest and the Tigers were able to capitalize as Anderson netted the empty-net insurance goal just 10 seconds later to lift the Orange and Black to a 3-1 win.
Van Beusekom finished with 34 saves as she held Dartmouth, a team averaging 4.5 goals per game, to just one score on the day. Ferguson recorded 18 saves in the loss.
Princeton improves to 8-5-2 with the win and 4-2-0 in the ECAC North Division. Dartmouth drops to 8-2-1 and 4-1-0 in the ECAC.
