Deland Leads Princeton Over Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT - Melissa Deland (Sr., Washington, D.C.) scored twice and also dished out an assist to lead Princeton to a 5-1 victory over Vermont in Eastern College Athletic Conference-North action on Sunday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Tigers are now 8-2-2 in their last 12 games after a 1-3-0 start to the season.
Nikola Holmes (Jr., Apple Valley, MN) netted a power play goal at 11:50 of the first period to put the Orange and Black on the board. Aviva Grumet-Morris (Sr., Evanston, IL) and Katharine Maglione (Fr., Fayetteville, NY) assisted on the goal.
Deland scored her first goal at 13:33 of the second period on assists from Angela Gooldy (So., New Hartford, NY) and Jessica Fedderly (Sr., Wyoming, MN). Susan Hobson (So., Mississauga, ONT) gave Princeton a 3-0 lead just over a minute later with assists from Deland and Wanda Mason (Sr., Lewiston, ME). Grumet-Morris gave the Tigers a four-goal cushion at the 3:06 mark of the third period. Holmes and Hobson, who each turned in five-point weekends, registered assists on the goal.
The Catamounts' Katie Gammon (Manchester, NH) scored at 11:16 of the third period on assists from Steph Cole (Lake Forest, IL) and Colleen Clifford (Braintree, MA) to break the shutout.
Deland added her second goal of the afternoon at the 15:00 mark of the final period to close out the scoring. Lisa Rasmussen (So., Washington, D.C.) and Grumet-Morris assisted on the goal.
Sarah Ahlquist (Jr., South St. Paul, MN) finished with 13 saves in the win. Vermont's Tiffany Hayes (New Milford, CT) recorded 34 saves in the loss.
The Tigers will return to Hobey Baker Rink on Friday, Jan. 11 to host Harvard at 7 p.m. They will close out the weekend on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host Brown at 4 p.m.
