Wunder's Early Goal Lifts Princeton to ECAC Quarterfinal Opening Win
February 27, 2026 | Women's Ice Hockey
Issy Wunder scored less than three minutes into Friday afternoon's ECAC Hockey quarterfinal-opening game and Uma Corniea and the second-seeded Princeton women's hockey team closed out a 1-0 win over eighth-seeded Harvard.Â
The teams will meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. back at Baker rink with a win sending the Tigers on to Lake Placid for the ECAC Semifinals. A Harvard win would force a decisive third game on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Baker Rink.
Princeton outshot Harvard 66-48 overall and 40-27 on goal with Corniea making all 27 stops. The shutout was Princeton's program record-breaking ninth of the season surpassing the eight that the 2002-03 team had. The win was the team's 22nd of the second putting this year's team alongside the 2015-16 team for the second-most in program history. The 2019-20 team won a program-record 26 games, and Princeton will aim to reach the ECAC semifinals for the first time since that 2020 season.Â
Emerson O'Leary started the play with a takeaway deep in Harvard's defensive zone before finding Wunder for the finish. Wunder's goal was her 26th of the season, tying her career high, set last season. She is only the fourth player in program history, and first in 30-plus years to have two 25-goal seasons. The goal was the 69th of her career, putting her one goal away from becoming the 14th player in program history with 70 career goals.
