PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton University's Department of Athletics has teamed up with TIAA-CREF for the third annual "Reading with the Tigers" summer reading incentive program.
Students in grades K-8 have been encouraged to complete the summer reading program before Sept. 1, 2001, in order to receive their free pass to selected home Princeton athletic events. Parents are requested to actively participate and are required to provide their signature to verify the fulfillment of the program's requirements.
Last year more than 1,000 students participated in the program and were afforded the opportunity to watch Princeton's accomplished student-athletes compete on 38 varsity teams. The Tigers captured 14 Ivy League championships, 2 national titles, and finished 24th in the Sears Directors' Cup. In addition, participants were able to witness events in some of Princeton University's first-rate facilities, including Princeton Stadium, Jadwin Gymnasium, Baker Rink, and 1952 Stadium.
"The Reading with the Tigers program is one of the best endeavors that we as a department can promote," says Princeton Director of Athletics Gary Walters. "Through this program that combines education and athletics, we hope that these children develop a life-long love of learning and playing, the necessary foundation for becoming genuine student-athletes and living balanced lives."
