The rest is history, at least as far as Princeton athletics are concerned.
Princeton's team, off since the weekend of Jan. 12 for first semester exams, return with a flurry of events this weekend. From here, there is a six-week sprint to the finish line for the winter season, with many teams in contention for Ivy League championships and postseason competition.
The men's and women's track teams will host the Princeton Invitational this weekend, though there is a twist: Only the field events will be held at Jadwin (Friday night). The majority of the five-team meet, also featuring Manhattan, Monmouth, La Salle and Navy, will be held Saturday at the 168th Street Armory in New York City.
The men's squash team will also be in New York City, competing at the NYC tournament, an individual event featuring college and open players. There will be plenty of squash at Jadwin Gym, though, as the women host the annual Constable Invitational, one of the highlights of every collegiate squash season.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams compete against Dartmouth Sunday at DeNunzio Pool. The women's meet begins at 11, followed by the men at 2.
The women's hockey team hosts Yale Sunday at 4 at Baker Rink, while the men do not play again until the weekend of Feb. 1-2, when they host St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
The men's basketball team, off to a 2-0 start in the Ivy League, hosts Western Maryland Monday night (7:30) in its annual return from exams against a Division III opponent. Princeton plays eight of its next 10 games at home, including matchups against Columbia and Cornell Feb. 1-2.
The women's basketball team, off to a strong 8-7 start overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League, are at Stony Brook Tuesday night and then at Columbia and Cornell the following weekend.
