Men's Volleyball Goes 1-3 In California

PRINCETON, N.J. - The men's volleyball team opened its season with a four-game swing in California, and came away with a 1-3 record. Princeton opened the trip with a 3-0 loss to LaVerne. The Tigers also suffered 3-0 losses to No. 8 UC-Irvine and UC San Diego before closing with a 3-0 win over Hope International.
Blake Robinson (Fr., Aliso Viejo, CA) led the Tigers with 19 kills against LaVerne. Jason Liljestrom (So., Irvine, CA) recorded a team-leading 41 assists in the loss.
Robinson and Dennis Alshuler (Jr., Newport Beach, ?A) placed Princeton with nine kills each in the loss to eighth-ranked UC-Irvine. Scott Dore (Sr., Newport Beach, CA) had a match-high nine digs, while Liljestrom recorded 33 assists in the loss to the Anteaters.
Liljestrom added 34 assists against UCSD. Robinson added 11 kills, while Ryn Burns (Fr., Encinitas, CA) had nine kills and Alshuler added eight.
The Tigers came out against Hope International were in control for most of the first two games, winning 30-24 and 30-25. Princeton trailed for most of the third game but was able to capitalize on a missed serve to take a 29-28 lead and then close out the match with a kill from Alshuler.
Robinson collected 16 kills and eight digs in the win. Alshuler added 15 kills, while Liljestrom recorded 46 assists.
Princeton will return to action on Feb. 9 when it travels to Juniata for a 7 p.m. match. The Tigers will face Penn State at 4 p.m. on Feb. 9 before returning to Dillon Gym for four-match homestand. They will host Concordia on Feb. 14, George Mason and St. Francis on Feb. 16 and Harvard on Feb. 17.
