Boyle, Striebel Help U.S. Rally Past Canada For World Lacrosse Title

Perth, Australia - Ryan Boyle '04 scored twice, both times in the third quarter, as the U.S. rallied to defeat Canada 18-15 in the final game of the World Lacrosse Championships at Perth, Australia.
The Canadians, led by four goals from John Grant, led 9-7 at intermission before the U.S. scored seven times in the third quarter to take the lead for good.
The U.S. has won six straight ILF World Championships since losing to Canada 17-16 in overtime in Manchester, England, in the 1978 ILF World Championship.
The Americans, who had defeated the Canadians 14-9 in the round-robin portion of the tournament, won all six of their games by a combined score of 115-48. The two games against Canada were the closest for the U.S.
Matt Striebel '01 scored twice for the U.S., giving him five goals in the tournament. Kevin Lowe '94, who scored 19 goals in six games, had one goal for the U.S., as did starting defenseman Ryan Mollett '01. Lowe and Mollett were Ivy League Players of the Year during their careers at Princeton.
Boyle, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, finished the tournament with 14 goals and nine assists. Boyle, who will be a junior at Princeton, now has one World Championship, one under-19 World Championship, one NCAA championship and two Ivy League championships on his lacrosse resume.
Trevor Tierney '01 was one of two American goalies.
