Box Score
Chris Owen scored two goals and Trevor Clay made 45 saves as Princeton topped No. 12 Harvard 2-1 at Bright Hockey Center on Saturday evening. Princeton's record improved to 3-15-0 and are 3-0-1 in their last four games at Harvard over the past four seasons..
Harvard doubled Princeton in shots for the first period 22-11, but it was Princeton taking a 1-0 lead at 13:26 on a power-play tally. With Harvard's Tom Walsh serving a penalty, Princeton worked the puck around with Steve Slaton blasting a point shot on Harvard goaltender John Daigneau. The shot was blocked before it reached the net and Chris Owen picked it up and shot it past Daigneau on the short side for his eighth goal of the season. Mike Patton also notched an assist as Princeton scored the first goal of the game for only the fourth time this season. Harvard continued to pressure the Tigers in the second stanza, but could not break through until late in the period. With Seamus Young serving a holding penalty, Dominic Moore carried the puck into the Tiger zone and beat Princeton goaltender Trevor Clay with a shot high on the glove side. The goal was assisted by Noah Welsh and Brett Nowak and evened the score at 1-1.
The tie however was short-lived as Princeton reclaimed the lead 19 seconds later on Owen's second tally of the afternoon. George Parros drove into the offensive zone and blasted a shot on Daigneau. He made the save but the rebound ricocheted right onto Owen's stick and he fluttered a shot over Daigneau as the goalie slid through the crease. That turned out to be the game-winning goal as neither team broke through in the third period.
Clay turned aside 45 shots to earn his third win of the season and Daigneau made 27 saves in the loss.
